About Us

Our work

The Primary Care Research Network East Midlands and South Yorkshire (PCRN EMSY) aims to improve the speed, quality and integration of research in primary care, ultimately resulting in improvements in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for patients.

The PCRN facilitates the development and conduct of clinical trials by:

  • Co-ordinating focused, effective investment in NHS research infrastructure to ensure that  quality research, funded by both commercial and non-commercial organisations, receives the support to succeed
  • Promoting collaboration between patients, carers, researchers, clinicians, academics, NHS Trusts, funders and industry to enhance sharing of resources and expertise
  • Building on the strengths already present in the UK as well as increasing general capacity in the field of primary care

The PCRN is funded by the National Institute for Health Research as part of its Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN).

Our Co-ordinating Centre

PCRN EMSY is hosted by NHS Leicester City and managed by Louise Young. The clinical lead is Professor Andrew Wilson.  Andrew is a GP in a research practice and Professor of Primary Care Research in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Leicester.

The Network comprises a Co-ordinating Centre, based at NHS Leicester City headquarters, and three local hubs - Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland (LNR), Trent and South Yorkshire.  Each of these hubs is led by a Locality Manager. To get in touch, choose your region from the menu on the left, or email Judith Martin.
