The Reversal Intervention for Metabolic Syndrome Study

A randomised controlled trial to investigate the effects of a structured self-management education programme for people with metabolic syndrome – the TRIMS study

Recent attention has focused on strategies to combat the forecast epidemic of Type 2 diabetes and its major vascular sequelae.  Metabolic Syndrome consists of a constellation of factors that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and T2DM.

TRIMS aims to develop and determine the impact of attending a self-management education programme for people with metabolic syndrome which will include management of cardiovascular risk factors.

The results will inform primary prevention strategies in people from varied ethnic backgrounds who are at high risk of developing T2DM and CVD. This could lead to a reduction in the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome and a decrease in the future incidence of T2DM and CVD.

This study will be running in Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland.
