Patient & Public Involvement

PCRN EMSY is very keen to expand patient and public engagement across the region and explore ways of getting the public involved in research. To find out about projects taking place in your area, or to publicise work your practice is involved in, please get in touch.

NIHR CRN

The NIHR Clinical Research Network aims to improve patient care and allow people across the country access to the best treatment. A common theme that runs through its work is Patient and Public Involvement (PPI), because NIHR CRN believes active PPI is needed if it is to achieve a programme of research that directly reflects the needs and views of patients and the public.

The NIHR CRN Patient and Public Involvement Manager is Roger Steel.
He can be contacted on 020 7670 4881 or r.steel@ukcrn.org.uk

Growing Patient Participation Campaign

Launched in June 2009, Growing Patient Participation is a joint initiative between the College of General Practitioners, the British Medical Association, the NHS Alliance and National Association for Patient Participation.

A £20,000 fund has been launched by the campaign, to support initiatives undertaken by Patient Participation Groups. Click here for more information.

Involve

Involve is a national advisory group, funded by the National Institute for Health Research, which aims to promote and support active public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research.

Local Involvement Networks

Local Involvement Networks (LINks) aim to give citizens a stronger voice in how their health and social care services are delivered. Run by individuals and groups and independently supported, the role of LINks is to find out what people want, monitor local services and use their powers to hold them to account.
