Jane Robertson - Interim Locality Manager

Yes   Jane completed registered nurse training in 1975 and midwifery training in 1978, working as a community midwife in north west Leicestershire until 1985. In 1988, she obtained a BSc Hons in Human Biological Sciences. From 1988 to 2003, she worked in ergonomics research, and from 2004 to 2007, she worked for Nottingham University, undertaking research into osteoarthritis. In 2008, she undertook a return to nursing practice course and joined PCRN in January 2009. As CSDO for Leicester City and County, Jane works with researchers and practices to implement research studies, supporting practices as required

Nathalie Bailey-Flitter - Locality Manager (Maternity Leave)

    Nathalie qualified as an RGN in 1997 and completed her part-time BSc Hons degree in Nursing Studies in 1999 just prior to taking a (long!) working holiday in Australia.  Nathalie worked clinically in Melbourne until 2001, when she returned to England and the NHS. She moved into clinical research in 2001, first working in the Acute Sector as a Research Nurse and Study Co-ordinator, then later as Research Governance Co-ordinator in Primary Care.  In 2005, she completed a Masters degree in Medical Law and is now Locality Manager for the Trent hub of PCRN EMSY.  Nathalie is the key contact for portfolio research in Bassetlaw, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.


David Kelly - Clinical Studies Development Officer

    David completed a BA (Hons) in Social Sciences before starting his nurse training and qualified as an RMN in 1989.  After a short spell in acute psychiatry, he became Team Leader of a residential psychiatric rehabilitation unit in Nottingham.  He completed the Thorn Diploma in Integrated Approaches to Psychosis with the University of Nottingham in 1998 then worked for ten years as a CPN in a Community Mental Health Team.  He briefly worked with the East Midlands hub of the Mental Health Research Network before moving to PCRN EMSY on a 12-month secondment.  David is the Clinical Studies Development Officer and is responsible for screening, recruiting and retaining primary care patients to clinical trials and other well-designed studies.

Craig Beecroft - Clinical Studies Officer

    Craig gained a BSc in Podiatry from the University of Northampton in 1999, then worked as a clinician and manager in a number of podiatry fields in North Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.  He graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2005 with a Masters in Health Service Research and Technology Assessment.  Since graduation, he has been involved in a variety of podiatry-based studies, two of which have been published.  He is the CSO responsible for the north of NHS Nottinghamshire County and Bassetlaw PCT, acting as a resource and support to GP practices and other primary care practitioners involved in the recruitment of patients and delivery of portfolio studies.

Janice Wiseman - Clinical Studies Officer

    Janice completed her training as a Registered General Nurse in County Durham in 1990 and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Research Methods.  She has worked in various clinical areas including respiratory medicine, cardiology and GU medicine, and, more recently, oncology, haematology and stroke. She worked as a research nurse from 2001 until 2009 and has experience of commercial, academic and non-commercial clinical trials. During this time, she also worked as Research Governance Officer. Prior to her current post she was Senior Research Nurse in the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust.  She joined PCRN EMSY as Clinical Studies Officer in June 2009 and is responsible for the NHS Lincolnshire area.

Sharon Perdesi - Clinical Studies Development Officer

    Sharon gained a BA (Hons) in Social Sciences from the University of Leicester before going on to complete her MA in Social Research (Social Policy) from the University of Birmingham. Prior to her role with the PCRN, she worked in Research Governance for both Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the West Midlands Comprehensive Local Research Network. She joined the PCRN in May and is acting as a resource and support to GP practices, throughout Derbyshire, in the recruitment and delivery of portfolio studies.

Working with Trent hub

The Trent hub is hosted by Nottinghamshire County Teaching PCT and is co-located with the Research and Evaluation team at the PCT headquarters in Rainworth, Nottinghamshire.  The hub has allocated desk space in Lincolnshire Teaching PCT and is looking to negotiate similar for ad-hoc use in Derbyshire.

Engaging with Trent hub will provide unique research opportunities in:

  • Prevention/screening
  • Early presentation
  • Conditions usually managed in primary care
  • Long-term conditions
  • Co-morbidities
  • Service configuration

It will also provide:

  • A central point of access for information about high-quality research studies
  • Access to a large number of free training courses and educational events (CPD points!)
  • Research support and expertise from the network team and their collaborators
  • Resources that support research (all the studies supported by PCRN EMSY have 100 per cent service costs covered)
